For further information about the department, please visit https://www.gu.se/globalstudies Subject area Human rights Subject description Human rights is an interdisciplinary field encompassing social sciences, humanities and law, and includes theory, ethics, policy and practice. Today, IGS offers both an interdisciplinary Master program in Human Rights in Swedish and elective courses at the Bachelor level in Swedish and English. Furthermore, the department coordinates an Erasmus Mundus program called Human Rights Policy and Practice, offered together with universities in Spain, the UK and Norway. IGS contributes with human rights expertise to an international Master program in global health coordinated by the Sahlgrenska Academy. Human rights expertise is also contributed to the Department of Social Work. Duties and responsibilities The position mainly involves teaching and research. The tasks also include course and program development and participation in the department's pedagogical development work. You are expected to actively participate in the school's research environments and seminar activities as well as the international research community through, for example, participation in conferences and publication in international peer-reviewed journals. Applicants are expected to initiate collaboration and actively engage with actors outside academia, for example in research collaborations or other activities where research results can be put to good use and contribute to debate, reflection and problem solving. It is a requirement that all permanent teachers learn Swedish within two years of starting employment. The IGS has a language policy and, if necessary, offers language support to achieve a certain level of Swedish. In addition, the position requires a very good command of spoken and written English. The position of Associate Senior Lecturer is a merit-based position where the holder, after a successful assessment, can be promoted to Senior Lecturer. Eligibility Eligibility for employment as a teacher is regulated in the Higher Education Ordinance, Chapter 4, and in the University of Gothenburg's employment regulations, see Employment regulations for teachers at the University of Gothenburg with the local application of the Faculty of Social Sciences (GU 2022/2359). Those who have completed a doctoral degree or have equivalent scientific competence no more than five years before the deadline for applying for the position of associate senior lecturer are eligible for employment (HF Chapter 4, Section 12a). However, a person who has completed a doctoral degree or has achieved equivalent competence earlier may also be considered if there are special reasons. Special reasons refer to leave of absence due to illness, parental leave or other similar circumstances. Other assessment criteria to be applied are specified in the assessment criterion below. After an overall assessment of skills and potential for future development (based on the applicant's documented experience, current work and future plans for research and teaching), the applicant who is judged to have the best prerequisites to perform the tasks included in the position, will be selected for the position as Associate Senior Lecturer. In addition, the assessment will take into account the applicant's ability to cooperate both internally and externally to perform the tasks described above. The overall assessment will also include the applicant's ability to contribute to the positive development of the organization. In the assessment, equal weight shall be given to scientific and pedagogical merits. Other information An Associate Senior Lecturer shall, upon application, be promoted to Senior Lecturer if he or she is qualified for an appointment as Senior Lecturer and is assessed as suitable for such an appointment according to the assessment criteria specified by the University in the vacancy announcement. An application for promotion must be submitted no later than six months before the fixed-term appointment expires. Such promotion entails a permanent position as Senior Lecturer. Applications for promotion shall be made in the same subject as the applicant is employed in. In accordance with Chapter 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance, eligibility for employment as a Senior Lecturer is that the applicant has demonstrated pedagogical expertise and has completed a doctoral degree or has equivalent scientific competence or other professional expertise that is of significance with regard to the subject content of the employment and the tasks to be included in the employment.
