About the departmentThe Department of Computer Science and Engineering is strongly international, with approximately 270 employees from over 50 countries. The Department is a fully integrated department with the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology as principals. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering is now looking for one or two senior lecturers with focus on teaching, with opportunities for pedagogical development and research, with University of Gothenburg as the employer. You will work at the Department of Computer and Network Systems within the Computer Systems or Embedded Electronic Systems and Computer Graphics units. The department currently employs 20 senior researchers covering topics such as computer architecture, dependable and real-time computer systems, computer networks, and computer graphics. The department hosts three master's programs and contributes to two bachelor's programs within the institution. 45 PhD students and 10 postdoctoral researchers contribute to driving the department's research, which includes numerous collaborations within GU and Chalmers, with Swedish and international industry, as well as with the global academic community. More specifically, the advertised positions for senior lecturer involve responsibility for teaching and course management in subjects such as Introduction to computer systems, machine-oriented programming, computer system design and projects in computer engineering. EligibilityThe qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Section 3 - 4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in University of Gothenburg’s Appointments Procedure for Teachers. To be eligible for employment as a senior lecturer, candidates must have demonstrated teaching proficiency and hold a doctoral degree or possess equivalent scientific competence or other expertise relevant to the subject area of the position and its associated duties. You hold a doctoral degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent field. AssessmentThe qualifications for academic positions are given in Chapter 4, Sections 3–4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and in the University of Gothenburg’s Appointments Procedure for Teachers. Applications will primarily be assessed based on pedagogical and scientific qualifications and potential related to the teaching subjects of this position. Deep knowledge of the topic of computer systems engineering is required and you must have well documented teaching experience in this area. Good knowledge of current research is required, since our teaching aims to be well connected with the research frontier. When assessing scientific competence, special attention is paid to research documented through high-quality publications. A documented ability to initiate, plan and implement research after the doctoral degree, international scientific collaboration, and ability to obtain research funding in competition are meritorious. Well-documented relevant teaching experience and pedagogical proficiency at university level are required. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, as well as experience and familiarity with course development and/or program management, are meritorious. Pedagogical qualifications should be well documented; both the scope and quality should be assessable. Special emphasis is placed on the ability to plan and teach courses within the subject area. Supervision at all levels is considered an asset. You must be very comfortable with spoken and written English. Proficiency in Swedish is considered meritorious. Practical and industrial experience in the field is meritorious. Courses in higher education teaching and learning of at least 15 credits or equivalent is considered as a merit. If this is lacking at the time of employment, the employee is expected to acquire such an education later. After a weighted assessment of merits and development potential in all areas, we will select the candidate that is judged to have the best qualifications to carry out the tasks included in the employment, independently and on collaboration with other staff members, and contribute to a positive development of the department and work environment.
