Subject Description

The research will focus on the development of novel radical-based transformations aimed at expanding chemical space and enabling the synthesis of complex terpenoid natural products. Significant emphasis will be placed on detailed mechanistic investigations to gain fundamental insights into these new transformations.

This position is equivalent to a postdoctoral position and is an initial step in a research career.


Work Duties

Detailed description of the work duties:

  • Research within photochemistry and metal-catalyzed hydrogen atom transfer (MHAT) reactions.

  • Target-oriented synthesis – total synthesis.

  • Extensive characterization using NMR, IR, HRMS etc.

  • Supervision of one MSc student.

  • Participation in group seminars.


Qualification Requirements

  • A PhD or equivalent research qualification within the subject of the position.

  • Very good oral and written proficiency in English.

  • Solid background in small-molecule characterization.

  • Ability to work independently and in a structured and reliable manner.

  • Extensive experience in synthetic organic chemistry.


Assessment Criteria and Other Qualifications

  • Industry experience will be considered a merit.

  • Prior experience in total synthesis and/or photochemistry will be considered a strong merit.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.


Terms of Employment

  • This is a fixed-term position at 100% for 11 months.

  • Preferred start date: 2025-11-01 or as soon as possible, no later than February 2026.
