Position Summary:
To provide expertise in the design, analysis, and interpretation of ongoing and planned observational studies, clinical trials, and basic research in human aging within a highly productive geriatrics research center.

Research Track Expectations:
This is a collaborative position. Within three years, all salary support is expected to come from supporting grants and projects from other individuals and projects within the Department of Internal Medicine, other Yale departments, YCAS, or external contracts and sub-awards. Promotion will be contingent upon excellent performance of all stated duties as stipulated in the Research Track.

  • Independently propose biostatistical designs and analytical strategies for observational and interventional research at the Program on Aging.

  • Perform comprehensive statistical analyses for longitudinal observational studies, clinical trials, and basic research experiments, often handling several studies simultaneously.

  • Assist faculty and collaborators with appropriate statistical methods, sample size requirements, and research methodologies during grant preparation.

  • Aid investigators in writing research grant applications, particularly methods sections related to data collection, verification, analysis, and interpretation.

  • Communicate findings orally and in written reports to a diverse group of investigators.

  • Collaborate on writing manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and prepare reports summarizing research data, interpreting findings, and providing recommendations.

  • Present talks, lead seminar discussions, and share methodologies and analyses at Yale, regional events, and national meetings such as the American Geriatric Society and the Gerontological Society of America.

  • Interact with internal contacts (PIs, research teams, clinicians, data management staff) and external contacts (subcontractors, staff at other institutions) to support grant preparation, data analysis, interpretation, and manuscript writing.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, or a relevant field.

  • Strongly preferred: at least three years of experience in the medical or biological sciences.

  • Experience with epidemiologic studies or clinical trials, including categorical, count, and continuous outcomes, longitudinal modeling, and methods for missing data.

Abilities and Skills:

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to collaborate with investigators from diverse clinical and epidemiologic backgrounds.

  • Ability to work independently and creatively in developing testable hypotheses.

  • Ability to prioritize among multiple conflicting demands and manage several projects concurrently.

  • Proficiency in SAS is preferred; familiarity with R, Stata, M-Plus, MATLAB, OpenBUGS, or other statistical software is highly valued.

  • Competence in generalized linear models, survival models, mixed effect models, structural equation modeling, and Bayesian statistics.

  • Desirable skills: joint modeling, multistate models, latent class models, dyadic analysis, growth mixture models, experimental design, psychometrics, and instrument development.

  • Openness to learning new analytical approaches, software, and presenting findings to the Yale Program on Aging and sponsoring investigators.

Application Instructions:
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Applications, including CV and a letter describing qualifications, should be submitted electronically via Interfolio.
