Position Overview

The division seeks postdoctoral researchers to join a multidisciplinary team developing molten salt-based chemical and electrochemical processes for applications including electrometallurgy, advanced nuclear systems, and chemical production. The appointee will develop a fundamental understanding of reaction mechanisms in molten salts, design and implement advanced flow systems and sensors, and apply chemical/electrochemical insights to process optimization and scale-up.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform experiments with multimodal sensors to advance understanding of molten salt chemistry and electrochemistry.

  • Develop novel process monitoring and control technologies for molten salt and liquid metal systems.

  • Design advanced molten salt flow systems for accelerated material processing.

  • Develop and test new materials and cell configurations for improved performance.

  • Analyze reaction pathways and kinetics for molten salt systems.

  • Communicate findings through technical reports, presentations, and publications.

  • Contribute to proposals and technical ideas to advance molten salt applications.


Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.

  • 0–5 years post-Ph.D. experience or equivalent research experience.

  • Ability to devise and perform experiments, use and maintain laboratory equipment, and interpret data.

  • Knowledge of chemical/material processing principles and electrochemistry.

  • Skilled in using computers for experiment design, control, and data analysis.

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

  • Must be a U.S. citizen to comply with federal regulations.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hazardous materials in controlled environments (e.g., gloveboxes).
