Project Overview

The project focuses on carbon dioxide removal (CDR) through Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage (BECCS) in Europe, assessing the climate effects, ecosystem service trade-offs, and direct and indirect land use change impacts of large-scale deployment. It is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundation project: “BECCS as a tool to achieve net-negative GHG emissions in Europe.”


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research under PI supervision

  • Analyze and interpret ecosystem and land-use data

  • Participate in dissemination, including publishing in high-impact journals

  • Contribute to teaching and mentoring activities

  • Collaborate with international research partners, including short-term stays abroad

  • Report research progress clearly and systematically


Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Strong interdisciplinary background in ecology, forestry, systems analysis, or land use change

  • Experience in quantitative modelling and data analysis of land use

  • Knowledge of ecosystem services assessment and trade-offs

  • Systems thinking and interdisciplinary approach

  • Excellent English communication skills

Desirable:

  • Interest in forests, biosphere-atmosphere interactions, climate policy

  • Strong teamwork, networking, and leadership abilities

  • Ability to plan and manage complex research tasks
