The School of Chemistry at the University of Nottingham invites applications from ambitious, curious, and highly motivated graduates to join its world-class research environment as PhD researchers starting in the 2026/2027 academic year.

Research Areas

PhD projects are available across the School’s three strategic research priority areas:

  • Chemistry for Energy, Environment and Sustainability

  • Chemistry for Health and Society

  • Chemistry for the Quantum and Digital Future

Applicants should indicate the broad area of chemistry they wish to work in and, where applicable, whether they have identified a potential supervisor.

Entry Requirements

Applicants should normally hold:

  • A first-class Master’s degree (or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, physics, or a closely related discipline

Candidates with a strong 2:1 degree may also be considered, as well as applicants with equivalent international qualifications.
