About the Project – StraDiVarious

StraDiVarious (Strains, Diagnostics, and Variants) is a European intersectoral doctoral training network focusing on emerging bacterial threats, specifically ESKAPE pathogens:

  • Enterococcus faecium

  • Staphylococcus aureus

  • Klebsiella pneumoniae

  • Acinetobacter baumannii

  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa

  • Enterobacter spp

Project Goal: Develop next-generation strain-specific rapid diagnostics and identify potential drug and vaccine targets.

Work Assignments

The doctoral student will:

  • Study how Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bind human proteins and modify their functions.

  • Apply methods in molecular biology, bioinformatics, quantitative and structural proteomics, and structural biology (cryo-EM) to study bacterial-host protein interactions.

  • Work in the Structural Infectious Medicine (STRIME) research group, collaborating with MSc students and other researchers in experimental and clinical infectious medicine and proteomics.

  • Collaborate with partners within the StraDiVarious consortium and participate in national and international meetings and conferences.

  • Summarize data in scientific manuscripts and compile review articles.

  • Take part in limited teaching duties at the bachelor’s or master’s level.

Expected Start Date: 1 September 2026


Qualifications

Required:

  • Master’s degree (240 ECTS) in medicine, biomedicine, molecular biology, or equivalent.

  • Knowledge in experimental infection medicine and microbiology.

  • Skills in molecular biology and protein mass spectrometry or structural biology.

  • Experience in data analysis and statistics.

  • Strong oral and written English proficiency.

  • Documented scientific work experience.

Eligibility for Third-Cycle Studies

  • Completed second-cycle degree (Master’s) or equivalent (240 ECTS, 60 at second-cycle level)

  • Or acquired equivalent knowledge in another way, in Sweden or abroad

Note: Only those admitted to PhD studies may be appointed as doctoral students under Swedish regulations (SFS 1998:80).


Employment

  • Type: Full-time, temporary doctoral studentship (limit of tenure 4 years, HF 5 kap 7§)

  • Start Date: 1 September 2026 or by agreement

  • Salary: Monthly salary according to Lund University regulations
