The College of Islamic Studies (CIS) contributes to critical intellectual debates on Islam in a global context through blended academic programs and immersive learning experiences. Its distinguished research division includes several research centers and clusters.

The Research Center for Islamic Legislation & Ethics (CILE) is a globally recognized institution specializing in Islamic Ethics, encompassing theoretical and practical dimensions. CILE has established an extensive international network, convening conferences, seminars, and major events. In partnership with Brill, CILE publishes the Scopus-indexed Journal of Islamic Ethics and the book series Studies in Islamic Ethics.

CILE launched the M.A. program in Applied Islamic Ethics in 2019, the first of its kind. Its research and education endeavors explore how Islam engages with and enriches global moral discourse, applying interdisciplinary approaches across theoretical and applied ethics.


Position Overview

CILE invites applications for two open-rank faculty positions in Islamic Ethics, seeking dynamic and innovative scholars to join the Center and contribute to its next phase of growth.

CILE’s current faculty focuses on theoretical and applied Islamic ethics, particularly bioethics, AI ethics, and fiqh-ethics intersections. The Center seeks new members whose scholarship expands the research scope and brings fresh perspectives, including areas such as scriptural ethics, Islamic theology, moral philosophy, environmentalism, psychology, art, migration, and human rights.

Faculty appointees are expected to secure research funding, publish regularly in prestigious journals, and contribute to teaching in the M.A. program in Applied Islamic Ethics.


Job Role Description

  • Conduct and publish original, high-quality research in top-ranked academic publications

  • Prepare and submit research proposals to secure competitive funding from national, regional, and international agencies

  • Actively participate in and lead research-related events, such as seminars and conferences, to foster collaborations

  • Teach and co-teach courses within the M.A. program in Applied Islamic Ethics

  • Supervise and mentor postgraduate students in their research endeavors

  • Serve on Center and College committees to contribute to institutional governance and strategic planning

  • Collaborate with faculty on research projects, reports, and papers for peer-reviewed publication

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure research quality

  • Contribute to the development of interdisciplinary research strategies, particularly those combining Islamic Studies and social sciences


Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Islamic Studies or a relevant field from an accredited university

  • Full proficiency in Arabic and English

  • Relevant academic experience at an accredited international university

  • Proven record of research and publications as a leading author in the field

  • Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Arabic

All qualifications, including depth of experience and impact of publication record, will be evaluated according to the rank applied for (Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor)
