About CBMR Our group and research Project description The PhD project is nested within the larger research collaboration “Deep Fetal Development: AI for Fetal Development Analysis and Impact on Future Health of Mother and Child” funded by the Novo Nordisk Foundation Data Science Collaborative Research Programme. In other arms of the collaboration, deep learning analyses of pregnancy ultrasound images will lead to measures of fetal and placental anatomical features in first, second, and third trimester, classification of different types of fetal growth trajectories, and quantification of tissue/organ growth, e.g. fetal adipose tissue distribution. Based on these data and available genetic data for mothers, fathers and children, the PhD project will make new biological discoveries about growth through (1) genome-wide association study (GWAS) analyses of the ultrasound derived growth measures, (2) comparative analyses with prior GWAS of birth weight and length, head circumference at birth, placental weight and gestational duration, (3) GWAS analyses of hemodynamic parameters from the ultrasound screening (e.g. flow in umbilical artery), and (4) pathway enrichment and other follow-up analyses for functional insights. Further potential directions include causal analyses using fetal/placental growth as exposure to investigate effects on later health outcomes in mother or child, and risk prediction models. The project will be done in close collaboration with research group leader Bjarke Feenstra (email: fee@ssi.dk) at Statens Serum Institut (SSI) and other partners in the Deep Fetal Development project. Dr. Feenstra will be the primary co-supervisor, and the successful candidate will be embedded in the research environment at SSI too. Principal supervisor is Professor Simon Rasmussen, email: srasmuss@sund.ku.dk. Job description
