StatUa is a core facility of the University of Antwerp since 2009, with the mission to facilitate scientific research at the University of Antwerp through statistical support to its researchers. Interdisciplinary interactions between researchers and StatUa members have led to many successful research projects across different domains. StatUa’s consultancy services transcend specific faculties and aim to provide state-of-the-art support in statistics, data science and qualitative research methods. Next to statistical support to UA researchers, StatUa also offers services to external partners in the private sector. On top of that, StatUa organises doctoral school courses for doctoral students together with the Antwerp Doctoral School (ADS) and within the context of the Flanders’ training network for methodology and statistics (FLAMES). StatUa and the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences are looking for a full-time (100%) visiting tutor in the field of Statistics. Position You will be responsible for high-quality education in Statistics within FLAMES. FLAMES is an inter-university initiative launched to support young researchers in pursuit of smooth, first-class empirical research with evidence-based conclusions. To disseminate information and contribute to the methodological/statistical training provided by doctoral schools from the five Flemish universities, we are looking for a coordinator, based at the University of Antwerp. The coordinator will develop training materials for researchers in different disciplines, organize courses at the University of Antwerp and teach modules at the different universities in Flanders and during the FLAMES Summer School. The courses you will teach may include: Teaching basic and advanced courses in statistics, methodology or data analysis Preparing new teaching material for the aforementioned topics, including the use of online teaching and blended learning Co-organizing the annual summer school in methodology and statistics Interacting with young researchers and lecturers in various disciplines. You will be responsible for statistical education and consultancy activities for the ADS, i.e., You will engage in statistical support or (predoctoral) researchers at the University of Antwerp together with the core facility manager who is the main person responsible for the consultancy assignments. Organization and teaching of courses for ADS, specifically targeting researchers at the University of Antwerp. You will be responsible for teaching activities in the Master of Epidemiology (in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences): You provide high-quality education in medical statistics and data management. You contribute to the development of stimulating, student-centred and competence-oriented course components and study programmes. Your teaching assignment will evolve in line with the training programmes. You will teach courses in quantitative methods until a weighted equivalent of 10 ECTS is achieved, including support in courses Data Management and Statistical Software (6 ECTS), Classic and Modern Methods of Data Analysis (9 ECTS) and Advanced Methods in Epidemiology (3 ECTS). Together with other members of the StatUa executive and steering committees, you will shape the future of the StatUa core facility. You will join a dynamic team of experts in statistics dedicated to the methodological training of young scientists. You will contribute to the development of training materials, provide training sessions at the different universities in Flanders, maintain a website designed to offer up-to-date information on available courses and StatUa activities, and engage in consultancy tasks with researchers of the University of Antwerp or external ones. Profile You hold a PhD in statistics (or related field). Your teaching competences are in line with the University of Antwerp’s educational vision. You act with attention to quality, integrity, creativity and cooperation. You are an experienced user of statistical software (such as SAS, JMP, SPSS, Stata, Matlab, Python, R or other statistical software). You are a creative and enthusiastic instructor, willing to take initiative. You are interested in and have the ability to engage in the different challenges attached to statistical consultancy, including interactions with external clients and researchers at the University of Antwerp, translation of research aims into research questions, data analysis, data visualisation and communication of key findings and results. You are interested in and able to learn new statistical methods and concepts, and you are able to apply these methods across different domains. You therefore have a broad expertise with statistical methods applied to different types of data and within different research domains. Creative and enthusiastic statistician with a keen interest in supporting pre- and postdoctoral researchers from a statistical point of view. You are able to work in an international and multidisciplinary team. Relevant experience in statistical consultancy is an asset. Strong interpersonal and reporting skills. Fluency in English, verbal and written. At least level B2 is required. Leadership and organizational skills. Given the structural financing of StatUa as core facility, this appointment may be prolonged after positive evaluation. If you work part time, your salary is calculated proportionally on the basis of your employment percentage.
