The Department of Mathematics at King’s College London is one of five departments within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical & Engineering Sciences. The Department of Mathematics is based at the Strand Campus in central London. Its research covers a wide spectrum from pure to applied mathematics and theoretical physics.

Current research in Pure Mathematics includes topics in Analysis, Geometry, Number Theory, Probability, and Topology.


About the role

Applications are invited for two Lectureships in Pure Mathematics in the Department of Mathematics.

Candidates should have research expertise in Pure Mathematics and demonstrate the potential to conduct research of high originality, innovation, and depth, with capacity for significant long-term impact in their field. Priority may be given to candidates with interests in Geometry/Topology, Analysis, or Analytic Number Theory.

The successful candidates will:

  • Contribute to the Department’s research activity;

  • Teach and assess across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes;

  • Promote the reputation of the research group through participation in scientific meetings, scholarly engagement, and external collaborations;

  • Undertake administrative responsibilities at Departmental, Faculty, and University levels.

About you

Essential criteria

  1. PhD in Pure Mathematics

  2. Strong research record in Pure Mathematics, evidenced by publications in high-quality journals and conferences

  3. Potential to attract external research funding

  4. Ability to teach undergraduate and postgraduate mathematics modules

  5. Ability to supervise postgraduate research students

  6. Ability to contribute to departmental and faculty administration

  7. Excellent communication and presentation skills

Desirable criteria

  1. Experience in attracting external research funding

  2. Experience in teaching and examining

  3. Experience of administrative roles
