About This Opportunity

The School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry is seeking Casual Academics for Semester 2, 2026.


Casual Academics make a rich and important contribution to the School’s academic, teaching and research endeavours through the provision of a range of academically focused services and activities. Casual Academics may be engaged to fulfil a wide range of duties, including (but not limited to) lecturing; tutoring; marking; and teaching support across multiple academic areas. Casual Academics are paid according to the category of their duties, as detailed in UQ’s Enterprise Agreement.


Casual Academic responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):

  • Lecturing/Coordination
  • Tutoring
  • Marking
  • Teaching Support

What We Can Offer

Current School of School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry HDR students can apply to undertake casual academic positions for the courses listed here.

Initial marking hours are based upon expected enrolment figures, which often fluctuate in the first few weeks of semester. After census date, all marking is reassessed using census enrolment figures, which means that your allocated hours for marking may increase or decrease depending on student numbers.

This is a Casual position. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary depending on the type of work completed. Please view our various casual academic pay scales.

Eligibility

In the School of Historical and Philosophical Inquiry preference is given to our current HDR students.

You must have work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.

  • A brief statement addressing: experience in lecturing/coordination/tutoring/marking undergraduate or postgraduate coursework (preferably with the School), and knowledge/expertise in the academic content of the course/s (generally demonstrated through completion of an Honours year, and/or progress towards Higher Degree Research in the field).
