Duties: the successful applicant will: (i) teach Anatomical sciences courses (gross anatomy, embryology, histology neuroanatomy); (ii) initiate, promote and participate in research; (iii) supervise research projects; (iv) provide academic leadership through programme development and research; (v) act as a mentor to junior academic staff; (vi) participate in all academic and professional activities of the University of Botswana, the Faculty and Department; (vii) engage with the university, profession and community; (iv) carry out any other duties and responsibilities as and when assigned by the head of the department.

Requirements:

Senior Lecturer: the successful applicant should have: (i) a PhD in Anatomy from a recognised university; (ii) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institution; (iii) an excellent cumulative and sustained record of research and publication with a minimum of 6 pieces of research products published by recognised publishers, 4 of which must be articles in refereed/accredited peer reviewed journals indexed in internationally recognised indexing databases; (vi) experience in supervising students’ research projects; (v) sustained research output:  a minimum of 1 peer reviewed publication every 2 years; (vi) scholarly presentations at national and/or international conferences; (vii) must be first author in 3 of the publications; (viii) publications should be spread nationally and/or internationally and across journals; (ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, the h-index, patents, policy applications, peer reviews, publications that are prescribed texts in other institutions, etc.; (x) recognised as being of at least national research standing (e.g. reviewer for refereed/accredited national and regional publishers; editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as keynote speaker at national and/or international conferences (required in at least 1 of these); (xi) evidence of governance, professional and community engagement.

Added advantages: (i) sustained research activity: on-going internally and/or externally supported research; (ii) research awards and other forms of research recognition, where appropriate; (iii) examiner/moderator/assessor for undergraduate and/or postgraduate projects nationally; (iv)effective and experience in running programme/course, etc.
