Maaref University of Applied Sciences (MAS) — Call for Independent Researchers (Online / Remote)

Maaref University of Applied Sciences (MAS) is pleased to announce an open call for independent researchers to join our growing academic and research community through online (remote) research positions. This is an opportunity for researchers who work independently—whether affiliated with an institution or not—to connect with a university that is building serious momentum in research, innovation, and community-focused knowledge production. (mas.edu.sy)

MAS is a private applied university established in northwest Syria (2023–2024 academic year), with English as the language of instruction, and a clear mission: delivering high-quality education, strengthening research and innovation, and contributing to the production of knowledge that matters—locally and globally.

Why this opportunity matters

Independent researchers often produce outstanding work, yet they may face real barriers: limited access to academic networks, fewer pathways to collaboration, and fewer formal bridges to universities and research ecosystems. This call is designed to change that.

By joining MAS as an online independent researcher, you can:

  • Collaborate with academics and research teams in a university environment that actively promotes research and innovation.
  • Contribute to applied, practical research aligned with real community needs and sustainable development priorities.
  • Build visibility through academic networking, interdisciplinary teamwork, and research-driven initiatives.
  • Become part of a university whose stated direction includes international partnerships, engagement with rankings, and progress toward international standards and accreditations.

Research areas (broad, interdisciplinary)

Applications are welcome from a wide range of fields. MAS is especially interested in researchers whose work aligns with applied impact, real-world problem solving, and strong academic rigor.

Priority areas include (but are not limited to):

  • Mechatronics Engineering & Robotics (automation, AI in engineering, smart systems, industrial innovation)
  • Basic Sciences (physics, chemistry, materials, energy, environment, medical imaging, nanotechnology)
  • Pharmacy & Health-related research (where relevant to applied sciences and community needs)
  • Economics & Administrative Sciences (management, policy, entrepreneurship, development, governance, organizational studies)
  • Arts & English / Language Studies (linguistics, academic writing, ESP, translation studies, communication, culture)
  • Education, EdTech, and digital learning (online learning models, assessment, curriculum innovation, AI in education)
  • Data, AI, and interdisciplinary analytics (data-driven decision-making, applied AI, research methods, evaluation)
  • Sustainability, community development, and applied social research aligned with real challenges and measurable outcomes

If your area is not listed, you are still encouraged to apply—MAS values strong research thinking, clear methodology, and meaningful contribution.

What the online position can involve

Depending on your expertise and research profile, online independent researchers may contribute through:

  • Co-authoring or supporting research papers, chapters, reports, or applied studies
  • Participation in research groups, theme-based projects, or interdisciplinary initiatives
  • Peer review, research mentoring, methodology support, or academic editing (where relevant)
  • Supporting the university’s wider research culture through seminars, workshops, and collaboration

(Your exact engagement will depend on your profile and the university’s research priorities at the time of selection.)

How to apply

To submit your application, please email:

mustafa.kayyali@mas.edu.sy

Recommended items to include (all in one email, if possible):

  • A short CV (with publications, projects, and relevant experience)
  • A brief research statement (your interests + what you want to work on with MAS)
  • 1–2 writing samples (published paper, chapter, or a strong working paper)
  • Links if available: Google Scholar / ORCID / ResearchGate / personal website
  • Your availability and preferred mode of collaboration (project-based, co-authoring, reviewing, etc.)

Deadline

This call is open until 1 April 2026.

Early submissions are encouraged, as applications may be reviewed on a rolling basis.
