This role is central to leading the design, delivery, and continuous improvement of the English for University program, ensuring high-quality student outcomes and a strong transition into undergraduate study.

As the School of English & University Pathways (SEUP) enters its next phase of development, growth, and expansion, we are commencing recruitment for a number of key academic leadership roles, including Head of Program – English for University (EU), Head of Program – Foundation Studies (FS), and a newly established role of Team Leader, Curriculum (Foundation Studies).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Head of Program, English for University (EU) provides strategic, academic, and operational leadership for the EU program across RMIT Vietnam. The role is accountable for program performance, academic standards, and student outcomes, ensuring consistent and high-quality delivery across Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, and supporting future implementation in Danang.

As a member of the School of English & University Pathways (SEUP) leadership team, the position leads program planning, delivery, and continuous improvement, with a focus on curriculum, assessment, and student experience. The role also contributes to the growth and sustainability of English and pathway programs through data-informed planning, cross-campus collaboration, and alignment with University priorities and transnational education requirements.


Key Accountabilities Summary

  • Responsible for the overall delivery and quality of programs under the English for University program including learning & teaching, curriculum & assessment, student support & achievement of outcomes, staffing & performance management, operations & administration, quality assurance & compliance, systems for feedback & reporting, and the department's overall achievement of specified metrics of performance, with accountability for continuous academic improvement and risk management.
  • Lead the strategic planning and implementation of English for University Program delivery in Danang, ensuring readiness across academic delivery, staffing, operations and student support
  • Contribute to student relationship management by overseeing student academic support, collaborating to deliver university services, committing to the improvement of student engagement and experience, managing systems/processes related to administration, and ensuring students’ equity of access, with a particular focus on transition, progression, and retention outcomes
  • Provide cross-campus leadership for academic and professional staff by building a skilled and motivated workforce through recruitment, mentoring, and performance management, fostering a culture of teamwork; ensuring teaching staff are actively committed to student service and support, and to the enhancement of the student experience; and collaborating with other SEUP leadership to initiate, plan, manage and evaluate professional development for teaching staff and managers in their programs, including capability development in curriculum development, assessment, academic integrity, and effective use of educational technologies
  • Ensure curricula and assessment are appropriate, relevant, current, valid, copyright compliant and aligned with industry standards and in accordance with the RMIT University’s teaching and learning strategy, and responsive to emerging pedagogical practices and learner needs
  • Provide academic leadership in curriculum development, assessment design, moderation, and validation, ensuring consistency, fairness, and alignment with RMIT’s policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable external and university regulatory requirements, including RMIT Policies and Procedures, Vietnam and Australian legal and regulatory requirements and, in consultation with the relevant internal and external stakeholders, play an active role in developing relevant new policy or guideline documentation and procedures as required, proactively identifying compliance risks and leading mitigation strategies
  • Develop appropriate networks and relationships internally and externally as required. Collaborate with relevant departments across RMIT Vietnam to deliver an inclusive student experience and represent the EU program in cross-campus and cross-institutional forums where required
  • Collaborate with RMIT University Vietnam Student Recruitment & Marketing to support a marketing plan, coordinate recruitment events, schedule and run program-focused trainings, and provide input into marketing materials, ensuring program integrity and alignment with market expectations
  • Collaborate with relevant departments at RMIT UP to develop and support pathways across RMIT University
  • Assist the Director on assigned projects and develop and implement the SEUP Strategic Plan, using academic data and evidence to inform decision-making and prioritisation
  • Leverage academic data and reporting to monitor program performance, identify trends, and inform strategic and operational decisions
  • Contribute to effective program budgeting and resource management by assisting the Director and School Manager in determining, preparing, and managing annual program budgets, balancing academic quality, staff sustainability, and financial viability
  • Other duties commensurate with the scope of the role

Key Selection Criteria

  • Relevant Masters or postgraduate qualifications
  • Degree plus CELTA or equivalent
  • Experience at a management level in a language teaching organisation, at least 3 years
  • Industry experience relevant to the Program
  • Demonstrated capability related to the effective leadership and management of language teaching programs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, implement and manage courses and administrative systems
  • Ability to contribute to and support the SEUP strategic objectives and operational direction for RMIT Vietnam
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, including negotiation, liaison, cross cultural communication, and report writing skills
  • Demonstrated capability to be an effective member of a management team where responsibilities span multiple locations and where delivery of programs involves collaboration with fellow managers in a matrix reporting structure
  • A commitment to quality language education and an understanding of contemporary approaches to teaching and learning that underpin English language programs at RMIT Vietnam
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, as per the RMIT Behavioural Capability Framework and in line with RMIT values
  • Appointment to this position is subject to passing a Working with Children check
  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, RMIT Values and RMIT Leadership Model

All academic appointments at RMIT Vietnam must meet University and local regulatory requirements, including English proficiency, background checks, and (for international candidates) eligibility for a work permit.

English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (General) with a score of at least 7.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
