About Our School/Department

The PGCHE programme is housed within EDEN, where tri-campus schools in China, the UK, and Malaysia are brought together. This structure provides opportunities, expertise, and collective skills for academics to work collaboratively across Applied Linguistics, International Higher Education, Translation and Interpreting, Cognitive Neuroscience, Literature and Drama, and other fields.

The School of Education and English is research-active and further enhanced by state-of-the-art laboratories, research centres, and experienced academics influential in their respective fields. The School supports pioneering research in areas including Psycholinguistics, Intercultural Communication, Multilingualism, Educational Leadership, Language Teaching Education (TESOL), Translation and Interpreting, Literary Studies, and International Higher Education.

About the Role

The Academic Director of the PGCHE programme will:

  • Manage modules for new academics across faculties for qualification/accreditation to teach in the UK higher education system.

  • Deliver programme material and assessments. PGCHE is accredited by Advance HE, and successful completion leads to Associate Fellow or Fellow status of the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

  • Develop bespoke teacher training workshops and programmes for local educators, and expand nationally and internationally.

  • Establish UNNC as a leader in global teacher training and professional development.

  • Seek grants and lead research projects in local and global teacher training.

  • Contribute to Faculty of Humanities and Social Science (FHSS) Area Studies research initiatives.

  • Collaborate with UNNC’s UNESCO Office and the University of Nottingham, UK’s UNESCO Chair.


About You

Candidates must:

  • Hold a doctoral degree in education, language education, teacher education, curriculum and instruction, or a closely related field.

  • Hold HEA Senior Fellow status (or higher).

  • Have recent experience developing and delivering teacher training and professional development workshops.

  • Demonstrate excellence in higher education administration.

  • Possess a strong record of global research and grant capture, especially in teacher training and professional development.

The position will be filled at an appropriate point on the Associate Professor level salary scale, based on prior experience and academic rank.

  • Initially a fixed-term contract for up to 5 years, extendable by mutual agreement.
