Overview

The mission of the Jean Mayer USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging (HNRCA) at Tufts University is to promote healthy aging through nutrition science to empower people seeking to enjoy long, active, and independent lives.

HNRCA investigators conduct some of the world’s most advanced studies on nutrition and aging, focusing on the nutrient and physical activity requirements necessary to promote well-being for older adults. Researchers examine how nutrition and physical activity influence the prevention of major chronic degenerative conditions and diseases associated with aging.


What You’ll Do

This is a grant-funded position and is not eligible for severance pay.

The Research Coordinator will support the NIH-funded study titled “The Impact of Biological Mechanisms of Aging on Response Variability to Resistance Training in Older Adults (BRIO)”.

This position involves coordinating and conducting all study-related exercise training and health education visits, working directly with study participants, and collaborating with researchers at both Tufts University and the Mayo Clinic.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the implementation and coordination of BRIO study interventions.

  • Schedule and manage participant visits, including check-in, escorting, supervising exercise training or health education sessions, and data collection.

  • Perform data entry and ensure data quality control.

  • Monitor and document participant adherence to study protocols, providing support and guidance as needed.

  • Respond to participant inquiries and resolve concerns appropriately.

  • Liaise with HNRCA core units and participate in research meetings with HNRCA and Mayo Clinic collaborators.

  • Assist in training staff and students on study procedures and data collection methods.


What We’re Looking For

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, nutrition, or another health sciences field.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a research setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, email, and web applications.

  • Strong data management and organizational skills, with experience handling data from multiple sources.

  • Experience with research data management software.

  • Experience working with research participants and supervising exercise training.

  • Completion of Human Subject Protection training (CITI Program) within two weeks of hire.

  • CPR certification within two weeks of hire.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work effectively with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, nutrition, or related health sciences.

  • Experience with REDCap or other research data collection databases.

  • Experience as a health coach or personal trainer.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (spoken and written).

  • Experience working under IRB policies and using e-consent systems.

  • Strong time management and organizational abilities.


Special Work Schedule Requirements

This position may occasionally require evening or weekend work, depending on study needs.


Pay Range

  • Minimum: $22.50 per hour

  • Midpoint: $26.80 per hour

  • Maximum: $31.10 per hour

Salary will be determined based on experience, expertise, and internal equity. Generally, new hires can expect pay between the minimum and midpoint of the range.
