Applicants must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment as an Intensivist at the rank of Associate or Full Professor at the University of Toronto. The tentative start date is September 1, 2026 (negotiable). Unity Health Toronto hosts one of Canada’s most advanced adult Critical Care programs, bringing world-leading innovation and research to the bedside. The St. Michael’s Medical-Surgical ICU is recognized locally and internationally for care of patients with severe respiratory failure, sepsis, acute inflammatory disorders, and other complex medical conditions. The unit also provides post-operative care for acutely ill surgical patients. The successful candidate will be a nationally and internationally recognized clinician-scientist with an established research program in Critical Care, a strong track record of research activity and success, and expertise in acute lung injury, ARDS, mechanical ventilation, sepsis, multi-organ failure, and other critical care domains including neurologic, cardiac, and trauma care. Requirements Medical degree with FRCPC qualifications (or equivalent) Eligibility for licensure in Ontario (CPSO) for Adult Critical Care Medicine Completion of graduate training at the doctoral (preferred) or master’s level An internationally recognized research program aligned with Unity Health Toronto’s focus on mechanical ventilation and respiratory physiology Research expertise in mechanical ventilation and platform clinical trial design is prioritized Applicants will be evaluated by a Selection Committee based on: Scholarly activity (grants, awards, publications) Clinical expertise and contributions to the field Quality and safety program development Local, national, and international collaborations Supervision of graduate students and fellows Graduate and post-graduate education in quality and safety Academic rank, salary, and contractual arrangements will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Compensation will depend on the clinical workload and aligns with the typical range for intensivists in Ontario, exceeding $200,000 CAD/year.
