Position Description:
The University of California, Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting a Health Sciences Assistant, Associate, or Full Clinical Professor to serve as Chief/Medical Director and teaching attending physician in its Addiction Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic, serving a culturally diverse patient population.

The applicant will:

  • Provide clinical leadership in addictions treatment in an outpatient clinic staffed by multidisciplinary clinicians and trainees.

  • Serve as an expert resource for the UC Davis Health system.

  • Facilitate coordination of addiction treatment and education provided by other departments and associated programs, such as Emergency Medicine/Toxicology, Family Medicine, and Veterans Affairs.

  • Supervise general psychiatry and combined residents (IM/Psych FM/Psych) in addiction cases.

  • Oversee and provide pre-clinical and clinical medical student education, psychiatry resident education in addiction psychiatry, and, in coordination with the program director, Addiction Medicine fellow education.

  • Engage in outpatient clinic administration, program development, and the full range of addictions treatment modalities.

  • Allocate time for administration, didactic teaching, case conferences, and supervision.

  • Engage in scholarly or creative activities derived from and in support of clinical teaching, professional, and service activities.

  • Evaluate and treat their own patients.

Teaching and Supervision Responsibilities:

  • Teach and supervise medical students, residents, and fellows.

  • Participate in professional societies and educational organizations.

  • Provide service to department and school committees.

  • Foster collegiality, work collaboratively in a diverse environment, and adhere to University policies and procedures.

Department Overview:
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences has approximately 65 residents in six residency training programs and 90 faculty and staff psychiatrists and psychologists at the UC Davis Medical Center and the Northern California VA Health System. The Department provides a stimulating teaching and academic environment.

Rank:
Assistant/Associate/Full Clinical Professor – commensurate with credentials.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications (required at time of application):

  • MD

  • Board certification in general psychiatry (or board eligible)

  • Board certification in addiction psychiatry or addiction medicine (or board eligible)

  • California Medical license (or eligibility for licensure in California)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching and supervisory experience of residents, fellows, and medical students

  • Experience supervising adult psychiatry residents/fellows, general psychiatry residents, and medical students
