Description

The Division of General and Thoracic Surgery within the Department of Surgery at the Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) and the University of Toronto invites applications for up to three permanent full-time faculty positions in pediatric surgery. The effective date of the appointment is flexible, with a tentative start in 2026.

The successful candidate(s) will:

  • Participate in the full breadth of pediatric general and thoracic surgery, including acute inpatient and outpatient care.

  • Share in call responsibilities and service coverage, including clinics and OR allocations at SickKids and Humber River Hospital.

  • Contribute to the education and training of clinical fellows, residents, and students.

  • Demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Show evidence of excellence in both teaching and research.


Qualifications

Candidates must:

  • Hold an M.D. (or equivalent) degree.

  • Be able to function proficiently in English.

  • Have completed residency training in pediatric or general surgery.

  • Possess excellent clinical and surgical skills to manage the wide range of complex pediatric surgical disorders seen at SickKids.

  • Show commitment to working as part of high-functioning interdisciplinary teams.

Subspecialty interests are desirable.

Additional requirements:

  • Eligible for academic appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in the University of Toronto’s Department of Surgery.

  • Demonstrated academic excellence in basic or clinical research.

    • Candidates may be considered for appointment as Surgeon-Scientist or Surgeon-Investigator, with protected academic time.

  • Eligible for certification by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or hold equivalent international certification.

  • Eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to leverage the multidisciplinary, clinical, and basic science facilities available at SickKids, including its world-renowned 21-story Research Institute, as well as the resources of the University of Toronto’s Department of Surgery.

The Division of General and Thoracic Surgery at SickKids is internationally recognized for advancing clinical care in academic medicine. Under the leadership of Dr. Kasper Wang, this is an exciting time of growth and innovation.


Compensation

  • Base remuneration: CAD $500,000 – $550,000 per year (for 35 hours/week), plus on-call responsibilities.

  • Billing overages will be distributed equally.

  • Relocation support will be provided.
