Description

The Department of Medicine, Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto, and the Division of Cardiology of the University Health Network (UHN) and Sinai Health System (SHS), a core component of the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, are seeking to recruit a qualified academic cardiologist with expertise in Interventional Cardiology.

The successful candidate must be eligible for a full-time clinical academic appointment at the University of Toronto as a Clinician Investigator at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Applications will be accepted until December 1, 2025, or until filled. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2026, or as mutually agreed upon.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated academic productivity or potential in the field of interventional cardiology, with a focus on education and/or research. They will have completed a minimum of a 2-year fellowship in interventional cardiology with a specific focus on managing patients with chronic total occlusions (CTO). An interest in Myocardial Infarction with No Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease (MINOCA) and its various related conditions, such as coronary vasospasm, spontaneous coronary artery dissection, and coronary microvascular dysfunction, is a priority.

The successful applicant must hold an MD degree, Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) qualifications (or equivalent specialist designation) in Cardiology with additional training in Interventional Cardiology, and have, or be eligible for, licensure in Ontario by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.

Preference will be given to applicants with a clinical/research focus aligned with the Peter Munk Cardiac Centre priority areas, which include complex coronary artery disease. The successful candidate will help advance developments in CTO and MINOCA. They will also have demonstrated scholarly excellence through successful funding of research grants, publications in leading journals, invited presentations at significant conferences, awards, accolades, and other related accomplishments. Preference will be given to applicants with a track record in clinical research who will conduct investigator-initiated research, as well as to those with advanced skills in complex coronary artery intervention.

The successful candidate will report to the Division Director of Cardiology at UHN/SHS. Candidates must hold an MD degree or equivalent and should have, or be eligible for, certification in Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario (CPSO). The primary language of work will be English.

Compensation will depend on the amount of clinical work performed (estimated based on fee-for-service billing) and will be in the usual range for an experienced academic Cardiologist in the Province of Ontario, commensurate with qualifications and experience. Additional sources of income, such as Alternate Funding Plans (AFPs) and merit awards from the Department of Medicine, may be available. Health benefit options and plans are provided in accordance with institutional policy. Additionally, the candidate may be reimbursed for partial start-up costs for office expenses and moving expenses.

The primary goal of this recruitment is to participate and enrich the educational and scholarly achievements of the Interventional Cardiology Program; maintain excellence in patient care, education, and research, with innovative research towards changing the lives of patients.
