Position overview

We are looking for an up-and-coming researcher who wants to conduct pioneering research to take up a position as Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer) in the field of resilient crime prevention.

The position will be based either at the Department of Law within the Faculty of Law or at the School of Social Work within the Faculty of Social Sciences.

We are looking for a promising, academically young researcher who can build and lead research within the area resilient crime prevention.

As an associate senior lecturer, you will:

  • develop your qualifications over 4 years
  • be eligible for promotion to senior lecturer (tenured position)
  • receive 5 weeks of higher education teaching training
  • access Swedish language courses for international staff
  • receive relocation and family support services
  • gain access to Lund’s International Citizen Hub

At the turn of 2026/2027, the Swedish Research Council will announce funding for Associate Senior Lecturers with international backgrounds. Appointments within this programme may be nominated.

Duties – what we expect from you

As an associate senior lecturer, you will:

  • conduct independent and collaborative research
  • engage with strong research environments and international platforms
  • develop teaching expertise, outreach and collaboration skills
  • learn Swedish

Most of your time will be allocated to research.

You are expected to:

  • conduct innovative research potentially funded by the Swedish Research Council
  • collaborate with practitioners in crime prevention
  • contribute to teaching
  • participate in departmental work

You will work within the strategic research area:
Building Resilience in Crime Prevention (BRiC)
Focus areas:

  • child vulnerability
  • drug markets
  • emerging technologies

BRiC is a collaboration between academia and:

  • social services
  • police
  • prosecutors
  • courts
  • prison and probation services

Qualifications for employment

You must hold:

  • a PhD or equivalent in social work, sociology, criminology, or related social sciences
    OR
  • a Doctor of Law degree in criminal or public law (or equivalent)

Priority is given to candidates who obtained their PhD within the last 5 years (with exceptions for parental leave or illness).


Requirements – what you must have

You must demonstrate:

  • ability to initiate and develop high-quality research
  • good teaching ability
  • recent international research experience (outside Sweden)
  • a project plan for resilient crime prevention research
  • documented leadership skills
  • excellent communication skills
  • very good English (spoken and written)
  • willingness to learn Swedish
  • no salary or grant from Swedish sources since 31 Dec 2022

Additional desirable qualifications

  • have postdoctoral experience
  • hold current international research positions
  • have experience obtaining external research funding

Form of employment

Fixed-term position: 4 years
(with possibility of promotion to senior lecturer, permanent position)


Promotion to senior lecturer

To be promoted, candidates must demonstrate:

  • development within their field
  • strong national and international research standing
  • good teaching ability across levels and methods
  • ability to supervise PhD students
  • ability to collaborate with society and communicate research
  • leadership and organisational ability
