Overview

The College of Music at CU Boulder seeks an accomplished teacher and performer of percussion for a tenure-track, full-time assistant professor position. The successful candidate will join a vibrant department with 40 graduate and 60 undergraduate brass and percussion majors, contributing to high-level teaching, performance, and mentorship.

CU Boulder emphasizes a collaborative, student-centered environment and values faculty who can strengthen relationships across departments and support the College’s creative and academic missions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Teach applied percussion, studio classes, percussion ensemble, and coach chamber music

  • Advise students and supervise graduate theses and projects

  • Participate in recruitment at regional, national, and international levels

  • Maintain and manage percussion equipment and oversee acquisition

  • Engage in an active creative/performance career

  • Serve on graduate committees and participate in other College/University service activities

  • Cultivate a collaborative atmosphere and interdisciplinary engagement across the College of Music


Required Qualifications

  • Experience teaching at the collegiate level

  • Established record of national/international performing experience in areas such as: Drum Set, Orchestral Percussion, Timpani, Keyboard Percussion, Chamber Music, World Music

  • Earned master’s degree in Percussion Performance or equivalent professional experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned doctoral degree in Percussion Performance or related field

  • Experience in graduate advising and job placement

  • Additional expertise in one or more of: Orchestral Performance, Marching Percussion, Jazz/Commercial Music, Percussion Pedagogy, Music Technology, Music Entrepreneurship/Business
