We are looking for a qualified and committed Senior Tutor in English for Academic Purposes (EAP) for Pre-Sessionals to join the Centre for English Language Education.


Centre for English Language Education (CELE)

Since the development of the Nottingham-Ningbo campus in 2004, the Centre for English Language Education (CELE) has aimed to promote high quality teaching in its structure and support of academic programmes delivered in China. With over 120 academic staff, the CELE operation at UNNC is now one of the largest of its kind in the world and is currently supporting students on UNNC Preliminary Year, Pre-Sessionals, summer schools and In-sessional language and academic skills support programmes.

Applications are therefore invited from suitably qualified educators and leaders having both managerial and teaching experience in higher education relevant to the position.


Position Overview

The Senior Tutor in English for Academic Purposes for Pre-Sessionals will be responsible for the management of a suite of Pre-Sessional programmes delivered by CELE including existing and new Pre-Sessional programmes.

The Senior Tutor will have a strong EAP background and will be actively involved in issues around curriculum design, delivery and assessment, typically having module convener responsibility for the Pre-Sessional modules.

The Senior Tutor will also have a leadership role in the strategic planning, organisation and delivery of expanding Pre-Sessional programmes within CELE and will represent CELE in liaising with stakeholders. They would ideally have a proven record of effective project management in curriculum design and leadership.

The successful candidate will also directly line manage teams of up to 10 individual academic staff and is responsible for carrying out classroom observations of teaching, as well as conducting annual staff performance reviews. Delivery of teaching on Pre-Sessional courses will also be required.


Requirements

Successful applicants must have a Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g. TESOL), and substantial university level teaching experience in international settings, with proven experience in course/academic project development and management, leading teams and prioritizing work to strict deadlines.


Remuneration, Benefits and Support

Successful candidate will be offered on a fixed-term contract for a period of 3 years starting July 2026 (later starts for exceptional candidates may be negotiated).

Salary will be within the range of 450,190 RMB to 592,815 RMB per annum, depending on qualifications and experience. All posts will be based in Ningbo and contracts will be with the University of Nottingham Ningbo China.
