Description

The Department of Economics in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto, St. George campus, invites applications for a full-time teaching stream position in the area of Economics. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream, with an expected start date of July 1, 2026.

We seek enthusiastic and innovative educators who are pursuing an award-winning career in university teaching and who demonstrate the ability to enhance the domestic and international reputation of our undergraduate programs.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Economics by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, and must demonstrate a record of excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and strengthen our existing departmental expertise.


Teaching Responsibilities

The successful candidate must be able to teach a wide range of undergraduate courses, including:

  • Large-enrollment, program-required courses in introductory and intermediate economics sequences

  • Upper-year undergraduate courses related to their areas of scholarship

The successful candidate will present clear evidence of:

  • Excellence in teaching in a degree-granting program (lecture preparation and delivery, curriculum development, and course design)

  • A demonstrated commitment to pedagogical innovation and inquiry

  • Expertise in at least two sub-fields within economics and the ability to integrate current research into undergraduate courses

  • Strong expository, organizational, and interpersonal skills, including collaboration with colleagues on shared courses and programs


Evidence of Teaching Excellence

Evidence must include a teaching dossier that highlights teaching accomplishments, including:

  • A thoughtful and compelling teaching statement

  • Sample syllabi and course materials

  • Teaching evaluations

  • Strong letters of reference from referees of high standing

Additional evidence may include teaching awards, professional experience that enhances teaching, and demonstrated contributions to curriculum innovation.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
