Position Description

The Department of Chemistry in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time, three-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA), teaching stream position in the area of Analytical Chemistry.

The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream with an anticipated start date of January 1, 2027.


Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Chemistry or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching in Analytical Chemistry.

Candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance the Department’s existing strengths are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Excellence in teaching.
  • Teaching experience in a degree-granting undergraduate program.
  • Experience that may include:Commitment to innovative and impactful pedagogical methods.
    • Lecture preparation and delivery.
    • Curriculum development activities.
    • Development of online materials and lectures.
  • Interest in teaching-related scholarly activities.

Assets

  • Experience coordinating laboratories.
  • Experience supervising teaching assistants at the university level.

Evidence of Teaching Excellence May Include

  • Teaching accomplishments.
  • Grants, awards and accolades.
  • Conference presentations.
  • Teaching dossier materials.
  • Strong letters of reference.
  • Teaching evaluations.
  • Evidence of superior performance in teaching-related activities, including:
    • Teaching assistantships.
    • Course instruction.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will carry a teaching and service load.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching undergraduate analytical chemistry courses.
  • Coordinating analytical chemistry courses.
  • Delivering lecture and laboratory components where required.
  • Conducting course development activities.
  • Conducting curriculum development activities.
  • Renewing lecture materials.
  • Renewing laboratory materials.

Salary

Salary Range: CAD $130,000 – $160,000 per year

Salary will depend on experience.

Negotiations beyond this range may be considered for exceptionally qualified candidates.
