Position Overview

We are looking for an up-and-coming researcher to take up a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor (Associate Senior Lecturer) in Immuno-oncology and Immune Cell Engineering at Lund University, Faculty of Medicine.

This position is part of the Lund University Programme for Global Excellence.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a world-leading research programme in immuno-oncology and immune cell engineering, with a strong translational focus.

A start-up package will be provided, and the role includes support for relocation, teaching training, Swedish language courses, and integration into Swedish academic life.


Research Focus

The position is embedded within a strategic initiative in immunotherapy at Lund University and Region Skåne, in collaboration with Skåne University Hospital.

You are expected to establish an independent research programme within immune cell engineering, including but not limited to:

  • Engineering of T cells, dendritic cells, or myeloid cells
  • Development of next-generation cell and gene therapies (CAR-T, CAR-NK, CRISPR-based editing, engineered antigen-presenting cells)
  • In vivo immune cell programming and synthetic regulatory circuits
  • High-throughput CRISPR or transcription factor screening in immune cells
  • Modulation of immune cell plasticity in the tumour microenvironment
  • Viral and non-viral delivery systems for immune modulation

The position encourages integration with:

  • Systems immunology
  • Tumour immunology
  • Stem cell biology (Lund Stem Cell Center)
  • LU-ATMP Center (cell and gene therapy platforms)
  • Single-cell and spatial omics technologies

Duties

As Assistant Professor, you will:

  • Conduct independent, high-quality research (primary responsibility)
  • Establish an internationally competitive research programme
  • Apply for competitive funding (including Swedish Research Council funding)
  • Collaborate with experimental and computational research groups
  • Develop teaching competence and participate in education
  • Contribute to outreach and collaboration activities
  • Learn Swedish and integrate into departmental activities

Most of your time will be dedicated to research.


Qualifications

Required:

  • PhD in experimental cancer immunotherapy or related field
  • Strong research record in immuno-oncology, immune engineering, or immunotherapy
  • Postdoctoral experience outside Sweden (or equivalent international experience)
  • No Swedish salary/grant since 31 Dec 2022
  • Documented teaching competence
  • Strong English communication skills
  • Ability and motivation to learn Swedish
  • Ability to develop an independent research programme (1,000–1,500 word research plan required)
  • Documented leadership potential
  • Strong collaboration and independence skills

Research Plan Requirements (Key Component)

Applicants must submit a 1,000–1,500 word research plan that:

  • Defines an innovative and feasible project in immuno-oncology or immune cell engineering
  • Extends beyond postdoctoral research
  • Aligns with Lund University research priorities
  • Includes collaborations within Lund University
  • Describes integration with Stem Cell Center and LU-ATMP Center
  • Demonstrates funding potential

  • Experience obtaining external research funding
  • Leadership experience or training
  • Experience with high-dimensional omics or computational immunology

Employment Conditions

  • Fixed-term employment: 5 years
  • Promotion opportunity to permanent Senior Lecturer position
  • Promotion requires meeting faculty requirements including:
    • Teaching qualification (≥5 weeks training)
    • Peer-reviewed publications (at least 3, including 2 during appointment)
    • External funding success
    • Supervision of PhD students
    • Qualified as associate professor
