Job DescriptionThe Department of Biology at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in Sensory Biology and Cell Physiology. We seek an outstanding researcher and educator with expertise in cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying sensory biology, signal transduction, and physiological processes at the cellular and systems levels. The successful candidate will contribute to advancing knowledge in these areas and foster interdisciplinary collaboration within the College of Science and UAEU research centers. Key Responsibilities: • Teaching & Curriculum Development: o Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Sensory Biology, Cell Physiology, and related fields. o Develop new courses that align with modern trends in physiology, neuroscience, or molecular biology. o Supervise undergraduate research projects and graduate theses. • Research & Scholarly Activities: o Establish and maintain an active, externally funded research program in Sensory Biology, Neurophysiology, or Cellular Signaling. o Publish high-quality, peer-reviewed research in top-tier scientific journals. o Collaborate with faculty members in interdisciplinary research within neuroscience, bioengineering, and genomics. • Service & Outreach: o Participate in departmental, college, and university-level committees. o Contribute to academic advising and student mentoring. o Engage in community outreach programs to promote scientific awareness.
Minimum Qualification• Ph.D. in Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, or a related field. • Postdoctoral research experience with a strong publication record. • Expertise in cellular and molecular mechanisms of sensory systems (e.g., vision, olfaction, mechanoreception, neurophysiology). • Demonstrated ability to secure competitive research funding. • Proven experience in university-level teaching and curriculum development. • Strong communication skills and ability to work in a multicultural academic environment.
Preferred Qualification• Experience with electrophysiology, optogenetics, or computational modeling of sensory processing. • Research focus that complements existing strengths in genomics, bioinformatics, and molecular biology. • Experience in interdisciplinary collaborations and translational research.
