Subject descriptionThe subject covers strategic, tactical and operational analysis, planning and development of technologies, processes and systems for traffic management, control and operation of rail traffic, i.e. rail, metro and tramway and other track systems for passenger or freight transportation. Areas that may be included include traffic management and control systems, punctuality and capacity, signaling systems, reliability, and operation and maintenance of track and systems related to traffic operations. DutiesThe assistant professor is expected to conduct research in rail planning and operations, be an assistant supervisor for PhD students and to develop KTH’s research, apply for research funding and be a project manager. Other important tasks include teaching in the subject area at undergraduate, graduate and doctoral level. This includes being a course coordinator, developing courses, contributing to the operation and further development of subject-related educational programs in collaboration with the industry and being a supervisor for degree projects. Administrative tasks are also included. The assistant professor is also expected to collaborate, both within KTH’s academic environments related to research and teaching and with the industry’s societal actors. The assistant professor will be given opportunity to develop their independence as researcher and gain accreditation that may allow them to take other teaching positions with higher eligibility requirements (see Chapter 4, Section 12 a of the Swedish Higher Education Ordinance). Following application, the assistant professor can apply for promotion to associate professor in accordance with Chapter 4, Section 12 c of the Higher Education Ordinance. EligibilityAn individual who has completed a doctorate or equivalent scientific competence is qualified for appointment as an assistant professor. Candidates who met those qualifications a maximum of five years before the deadline for applying for the appointment as an assistant professor has expired should be prioritized.
