Position Description

The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, in partnership with Alberta Health Services (AHS), invites applications for an academic tenure-track position within the Department of Family Medicine at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and is part of the Alberta Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP).

This position is a full-time (1.0 FTE) tenure-track (contingent) position, comprised of approximately:

  • 50% clinical workplace-based teaching

  • 50% academic pursuits, including research (10%), teaching (20%), and administration (20%)


Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director, Faculty Development to design, implement, and evaluate faculty development programs supporting clinical teaching, scholarly activity, and professional growth.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching to faculty members at various stages of their academic careers, emphasizing teaching effectiveness, academic leadership, and career progression.

  • Align faculty development initiatives with departmental and institutional strategic goals, accreditation requirements, and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles.

  • Organize and facilitate workshops, seminars, retreats, and other faculty development activities tailored to clinical academic faculty needs.

  • Support faculty in academic roles, including promotion and tenure processes, academic dossier preparation, and scholarly productivity.

  • Contribute to the scholarship of teaching and faculty development through research, evaluation, and dissemination of best practices.

  • Participate in departmental committees, meetings, and academic service activities relevant to the faculty development portfolio.

Qualifications

Required:

  • MD degree (or equivalent) with board certification in Family Medicine

  • Certification by the College of Family Physicians of Canada

  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA)

Assets:

  • Advanced training or certification in research methodologies

  • Demonstrated scholarship in applied research and collaboration with health system partners

  • Skills in data analysis, clinical informatics, or population health

  • Effective leadership, communication, and collaboration abilities

  • Graduate training in a relevant field


Remuneration

  • Commensurate with qualifications and experience

  • Supported through the Academic Medicine and Health Services Program (AMHSP)

  • Start-up funding available
