Position Summary
The Jacobs School of Music seeks candidates for a Lecturer position in Percussion and Jazz Studies, with an emphasis on Afro-Caribbean and Latin Jazz percussion. A secondary area of expertise on traditional Cuban, Brazilian and/or other African diasporic traditions in Latin American is also highly welcome. This is a ten-month, full-time, and tenure-ineligible position, with an initial three-year appointment.

The successful candidate will have an extensive and successful background as a performer and teacher, will be able to work effectively with faculty colleagues, and will be able to mentor undergraduate and graduate students in a professionally-oriented educational environment. The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music combines artistry, pedagogy, and research to prepare its students to fully realize the potential of the expressive arts to change lives and to enrich society.

Responsibilities will include teaching applied and group lessons for undergraduate and graduate students on Caribbean, Latin and Latin American percussion training drum set players for Latin Jazz Ensemble, and coaching the Latin Jazz Ensemble rhythm section. When appropriate, responsibilities may also include working with students and programs associated with the Latin American Music Center.

The candidate will also be expected to participate in student advising and recruitment; departmental committees and auditions; other activities and projects within the Jacobs School; and to maintain active involvement in professional organizations.
Basic Qualifications
Artist/teacher with a growing (for junior applications) or established (for senior applications) national/international reputation as a performer and demonstrated evidence of successful teaching and recruitment. Master’s degree in percussion, jazz studies, or related field required; comparable professional experience will also be considered.

Additional Qualifications  
Salary and Rank Rank is Lecturer. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
