Revelle College at UC San Diego was founded on the principle of giving its students a well-rounded general education. The Humanities Program provides the liberal arts component of the college’s educational vision and serves as its writing requirement. The Humanities Program is a core text and writing program that engages the Western intellectual tradition. The program emphasizes the development of skills in critical thinking and persuasive analytical writing. Our courses take an interdisciplinary approach to teaching challenging texts to make them accessible to undergraduate students representing diverse backgrounds, interests, and levels of preparation. For more information, visit https://revelle.ucsd.edu/humanities/.

The available lectureships are to teach Humanities 100: Advanced Topics in the Humanities. HUM 100 is a requirement for transfer students to Revelle College. Sections of the course are taught as small classes of about 20 students. They are designed around thematic engagements with both ancient and modern texts. The purpose of the course is to build students’ writing skills, facilitating the transition to the university and their upper-division course work.
